Track description
The need for making ICT activities more sustainable is becoming more pressing every passing day due to the increasing degree of digitization of the economy and everyday life. For example, the uncontrolled adoption of Generative AI across different sectors has raised many questions about its impact on the environment and to work relations and has not provided convincing answers about the viability of its business model. The multidimensionality of the problem of making ICT sustainable, involving environmental, financial, societal, and technical considerations in complex relations with each other, and the breadth of the involved disciplines requires a concentrated collaborative effort from the wider community. In this track organized by 4TU.NIRICT, we aim to follow up on the activities organized at different sessions at ICT.OPEN 2024 to highlight active research on the topic across the Netherlands, and provide the forum for an active discussion between the academic and practitioner community. In addition to invited speakers, we invite submissions for oral presentations and posters for the track on the subject of environmental sustainability of ICT systems.
4TU.NIRICT (4TU The Netherlands Institute for Research on ICT, https://www.4tu.nl/nirict/) focuses on the interface between Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as it is important to bring ICT researchers together from the fields of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and from different institutes to fully realize the potential of ICT to the benefit of society and industry.
Given the importance of sustainability of digital infrastructures toward a sustainable future, we also would like to point to the track CompSys Research for a Sustainable and Equitable Digital Infrastructure for your potential submissions and participation in the track and poster sessions.
