Artificial Intelligence (AI) en digital twins krijgen voorzichtig voet aan de grond in de bouwsector. De mogelijkheden van digitalisering lijken eindeloos, maar implementatie ervan is vaak nog lastig.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twins are cautiously gaining a foothold in the construction industry. The possibilities of digitalization seem endless, but their implementation still needs to be improved.

Something to think about: we will only end climate problems with integral solutions. "It sounds abstract but at the same time it makes perfect sense."

Om over na te denken: klimaatproblemen beëindigen we alleen met integrale oplossingen. “Het klinkt abstract maar tegelijk ook heel logisch.”  

De bouw in Nederland moet dringend innoveren. Het woningtekort, het halen van de duurzaamheidsdoelen en onderhoud van de infrastructuur maken transitie en innovatie noodzakelijk. Professor André Dorée, voorzitter van het departement Civil Engineering & Management aan Universiteit Twente, houdt zich al dertig jaar bezig met de vraag hoe de Nederlandse bouwsector – en dan met name de infrastructuur – vernieuwt. “Daarin bekijk ik vooral de rol van de overheid”, vertelt hij. “Deze vervult vele rollen. De overheid is onder meer marktmeester, belangrijk inkoper, vergunningverlener en handhaver.”

Construction in the Netherlands urgently needs to innovate. The housing shortage, meeting sustainability goals, and infrastructure maintenance make transition and innovation necessary. Professor André Dorée, chair of the Civil Engineering & Management Department at the University of Twente, is already involved for 30 years in how the Dutch construction industry - and infrastructure in particular - innovates. "In this, I mainly look at the role of the government," he says. "It fulfills many roles. Among other things, the government is market master, important buyer, licensing authority and enforcer."

Innovations that go far off the beaten track, that is what 4TU.Bouw, one of the nine Centers of the 4TU.Federation, is dedicated to. The four technical universities and fourteen universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands are working together on a long-term vision and an action plan for (fundamental) research in the construction sector. Clever minds are shining their light on the future of the construction sector, each from their own background and perspective.

Innovaties die verder gaan dan de gebaande paden, Daar zet 4TU.Bouw, een van de negen Centers van de 4TU.Federation, zich voor in. De vier technische universiteiten en veertien hogescholen in Nederland werken samen aan een langetermijnvisie en een actieplan voor (fundamenteel) onderzoek in de bouwsector. Knappe koppen laten hun licht schijnen op de toekomst van de bouwsector, ieder vanuit hun eigen achtergrond en invalshoek.

Steeds vaker ontstaan er kleine scheurtjes in treinrails. Om dit op te lossen is internationale samenwerking cruciaal.

More and more often, tiny cracks are appearing in train tracks. International cooperation is crucial to solve this.
