2nd National Interdisciplinary Education Conference
The second National Conference on Interdisciplinary Education (NIE) will take place on January 30, 2018, at Eindhoven University of Technology. During this conference teachers and researchers from universities in the Netherlands and Flanders will share their experiences, practices, expertise, and ideas on interdisciplinary education in the domain of higher education. The conference is hosted by 4TU.CEE. Tickets for the conference are available now.
Why interdisciplinary education?
Future workers and researchers are increasingly required to deal with complex problems that go beyond the borders of single domains, and they have to work in teams with people sharing different competencies and expertise. Education has to prepare students for these new situations and competencies, and higher education institutes are doing so in a variety of ways. There are many interesting questions to be answered with respect to interdisciplinary education. How to effectively and fruitfully collaborate between teachers from different domains in order to prepare and implement interdisciplinary education activities? How to assess such activities, even in situations where only domain experts are available? How to design for activities that truly go beyond the borders of subject domains or even institute domains? What competencies are needed from students to navigate interdisciplinary education experiences? What expertise and knowledge do teachers need to teach such activities? What does research tell us about effective, high-quality interdisciplinary education?
