Learn about the relevance of cultural intelligence in international environments.
Workshop 'From emotional to cultural intelligence'
A 1-day workshop that will work with participants on both emotional and cultural intelligence skills, clarifying the difference between the two, and how cultural intelligence is even more relevant than emotional intelligence when living or working in an international context. Questionnaires, critical incidents and activities will be used.
About the workshop
Being able to successfully manage relationships with others in order to achieve certain personal and social objectives (emotional intelligence) is widely regarded as a key to success in personal and professional life. What is less known however, is that emotional intelligence does not necessarily translate into being able to effectively manage cross-cultural relationships. This capacity, crucial for those who live abroad or work with individuals from different cultures, is the so-called “Cultural Intelligence”. Paradoxically, research shows that individuals who might be socially competent in their own cultures tend to suffer disappointing social setbacks abroad or when dealing with people from different cultures. Why is that? This workshop will teach participants what are the differences between emotional intelligence and cultural intelligence, and how to develop their “Cultural Intelligence Coefficient” (CQ), so that they can translate their interpersonal capacities more effectively onto international contexts.
After the workshop you will be able to
- Understand why emotionally intelligent individuals still need to work on increasing their social competence when working in international contexts.
- Become familiarized with the importance of Cultural Intelligence when facing different cultures or while being abroad
- Gain awareness of your personal Cultural Intelligence Coefficient and develop a strategy to strengthen it
- Cultivate ideas on how to support the development of cultural intelligence among students on Campus.
