There is a need for engineers who are not afraid to ask critical questions, who can work together well and look beyond the boundaries of their own field. This means students need to learn more about integrating and applying knowledge, methods and skills from different subject areas and multiple sources.
Would you like to know how to successfully develop, implement and sustain an interdisciplinary approach to your teaching? This workshop focuses on developing a shared teaching philosophy for interdisciplinary teaching. What do you want to achieve? What must be done to ensure that students actually integrate knowledge across disciplines? What does a student need of their teacher? What is indispensable for an effective interdisciplinary learning environment? Find out during this interactive workshop!
Interdisciplinarity
An interdisciplinary approach is becoming increasingly popular in courses and programmes of Universities of Technology. The term ‘interdisciplinarity’ has become a buzzword at the TUDelft in recent years. There is a need for engineers who are not afraid to ask critical questions, who can work together well and look beyond the boundaries of their own field. This means students need to learn more about integrating and applying knowledge, methods and skills from different subject areas and multiple sources.
About the workshop
This workshop will serve as a foothold for educational initiatives where interdisciplinary skills are cherished and developed. It is meant for university teachers who aim to successfully develop, implement and sustain an interdisciplinary approach to their teaching.
You are invited to bring along your questions regarding your interdisciplinary teaching practice or future plans. During the workshop we will work with these questions and provide feedback and suggestions. This workshop is based on the recent published handbook Designing Interdisciplinary Education, Amsterdam University Press (2017).
