Lunch and Learn session on Team-based Learning
More and more UT teachers experience the advantages of Team-based Learning (TBL). TBL is a versatile instructional strategy, in which students learn to work together in a team. On 28 November a session on TBL is organised at University of Twente. Subscribe now!
About TBL
TBL focuses on both theory and applying knowledge through peer learning. It has proven to be effective in small and large student groups, while only one instructor is needed to guide the process. Important aspects are the multiple-choice tests that are used within TBL. These quickly provide the teacher with insight in the learning process of students, for instance which obstacles they encounter. This way, as a teacher, you will know which subjects to emphasize in mini lectures that could follow up these tests.
But… it is not an easy instructional strategy. TBL requires preparation, not just by students, but also by teachers.
Teaching Topic
TBL is discussed in the latest Teaching Topic edition, an initiative of University of Twente. In it a clear image of the possibilities and challenges of TBL is provided. It also presents a specific sequence of activities that TBL requires. Furthermore, you can read experiences from two UT teachers and even watch a short video about ‘Team-based Learning in action at the UT’.
