The challenges of Challenge Based Learning (CBL) in university context
4TU.CEE and CELT (Centre of Expertise in Learning and Teaching at UT) in cooperation with Linköping University offer a lunch meeting and a workshop about the challenges of designing and implementing Challenge Based Learning (CBL) in university context on Wednesday 8 January 2020. The lunch meeting is for everyone interested in CBL, the workshop is for those who are considering implementation of (elements of) CBL.
About the events:
- Lunch meeting 12:30-13:30: Introduction to CBL
What is CBL? What are the benefits and implementation challenges of CBL? Stakeholder engagement, change dynamics and experiences from Linköping University, Zweden.
- Workshop 13:30-16:00: The challenges of CBL implementation
What makes a “good” challenge? How to design CBL education? How to balance the interest of external stakeholders and student-team learning during the projects? How can student learning be assessed and who should be involved? What makes a good CBL educator? What are organisational implications of CBL?
CBL is the new trend in Higher Education and at the UT
New challenge-based educational models emerge everywhere, also at the UT, to deal with complex societal challenges faced by business, public organisations, sectors and industries. Such models have in common that they are designed as arenas where university, business and the public sector collaborate around common issues. Students appear to value this development, particularly those students who have an interest in addressing (large) societal challenges There are several modules and courses at the UT that already use (elements of) CBL. Very recently, the challenged-based ECIU university was announced where students, scientists and practitioners will cooperate with cities, regions and businesses to solve real-life challenges. The UT is one of on the leading ECIU partners.
