Webinar| Diversity & Inclusion on campus: a general framework and the D.I.V.E.R.S.I.T.Y. model

Thursday 17 June 2021 / 10.00 - 11.30
Webinar| Diversity & Inclusion on campus: a general framework and the D.I.V.E.R.S.I.T.Y. model

-Gain understanding and usable tools to actively work on inclusion-

Have you ever wondered what Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is really about? It’s an undeniable concept these days, it’s omnipresent in the news, in society at large, so also on our university campuses. We indeed represent great diversity in our 4TU institutions based on gender, age, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, religions, interdisciplinarity, (dis)abilities and various life orientations. This diversity and the intersectionality of this diversity are part and parcel of our daily realities. So what do you do with this fact of nature? Develop inclusion: A choice you make and actions you take to create a welcoming environment with a strong sense of belonging and ultimately wellbeing. By achieving these steps we gradually generate full integration of our diversity in our campus communities.

Would you like some more clarity on the concept of D&I and gain some understanding and usable tools to actively work on inclusion within your area of work? Join us for the start of this journey on June 17. A follow-up workshop will be held in Autumn this year.

About the webinar

This interactive webinar aims first at creating awareness about what Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) means on a university campus. This learning process starts from diversity at large to subsequently co-create inclusion, a sense of belonging and, ultimately, wellbeing. Once this framework is in place, we can co-generate the best diverse, social and psychologically safe environment, where students and staff can thrive and openly speak, question, act (and also make mistakes) and live a healthy life on campus and beyond.

We will review 9 areas within the D.I.V.E.R.S.I.T.Y. framework that need special attention when developing a D&I policy. The Toolbox Internationalisation jointly developed by 4TU will also be showcased as one of the digital tools to implement D&I activities in the international classroom. Finally, we will make recommendations that can serve as a model for reflection or guidelines for actions to develop best practices daily, if relevant related to post Covid-19 turbulent times.
