4TU | The Weekend of Science

Saturday 5 October 2024 / 13.00 - 17.00
During the Weekend of Science (5 and 6 October 2024), students from the four TUs will be present with cool vehicles, demos and workshops to show children and their parents how much fun technology is and what solutions they are working on to tackle the global challenges of climate, health, agrofood, safety, infrastructure and mobility.

This year, for the first time, we as 4TU are also participating in the Weekend of Science – the national science festival during the weekend of 5 and 6 October 2024 where science centres, museums and other institutions open their doors and show children and their (grand) parents what they have to offer in terms of science and technology.

Children learn to design their own sustainable jeans, discover with an interactive app how many wild plants and animals also live in the city, admire the terraced house of the future and see how a boat can fly on solar energy.

Why Science Weekend and student teams?

The innovations of the student teams and the students behind them are an appealing way to explain to children how much fun technology is, that girls and boys can study it and what you can do with it in terms of profession.

The higher goal: To promote technology to children – this in view of the decline in engineering students and a shortage of workers in the technology domain

In addition to children who already know what is "for sale in terms of technical education" through school, parents or otherwise, we also aspire to reach children who are less likely to come into contact with this due to their background/environment. We want to offer the children new perspectives, show them the world behind technology, broaden their horizons and, in the best case, entice them to study technology.

Why Marineterrein Amsterdam

We have chosen Amsterdam for this 1styear – pilot year – because of its rural appearance, its reasonably central location and good accessibility, and for the Marineterrein because there is enough space here to accommodate the cars and other innovations of the student teams.
