An evaluation of the PhD Pitch Training â November 2024
In October 2024, a comprehensive 4TU.Energy PhD Pitch Training was conducted, attended by 40 dedicated PhD candidates divided into 3 workshops. This  workshop with the title of "Pitch Your Research" was conducted by ElroyCOM training, to help Ph.D. students within 4TUs to improve their pitch skills. The workshop lasted for 3 hours and was moderated by one main trainer and a training actor, with more examples and interaction.
This report looks at the feedback the participants provided and highlights various aspects of the training.
Overall Workshop Feedback
The âPitch Your Researchâ workshop received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants. The majority of respondents rated the workshop highly, with most scores falling in the 4-5 range on a 5-point scale. Participants appreciated the structure and content of the workshop, noting its practical application and the effectiveness of the training.
Trainer and Actor Performance
Both the trainer and the training actor were highly rated by the participants. The trainer received consistent praise for her engaging and informative delivery, while the training actor was commended for her realistic and helpful role-playing exercises.
Workshop Speed and Duration
The speed of the workshop was generally well-received, with most participants finding it appropriately paced. However, a few comments suggested that the workshop could benefit from being split into two sessions to allow more time for practice and reflection. The duration was also seen as adequate.
Materials and Learning Outcomes
Participants found the workshop materials, including handouts, to be useful and well-prepared. The majority of respondents felt that they had learned a significant amount from the workshop and could apply the principles in their work. The balance between theory and practice was also appreciated, with many noting the practical focus as a key strength.
Recommendations and Remarks
Most participants indicated that they would recommend the workshop to their colleagues. The feedback included several constructive suggestions, such as providing more time for pitch preparation and considering a split-session format to enhance learning and retention. Overall, the remarks were positive, highlighting the workshopâs effectiveness in helping participants develop clear and concise research pitches.
