Litska Strikwerda

Profile

Litska Strikwerda studied law at Utrecht University, where she obtained her masterā€™s degree in the field of criminal law. She then took the masterā€™s course Applied Ethics at the Norwegian Technical-Natural Science University (NTNU) in Trondheim. After graduating, Litska worked for a few years as a junior assistant professor of criminal law at the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Justice. In the following years she wrote her dissertation titled ā€œVirtual Acts, Real Crimes? A legal-philosophical analysis of virtual cybercrime.ā€ During that time she worked as a visiting scholar at Loyola University (Chicago, USA) for a couple of months. She received her PhD from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Twente in 2014. In 2016 she was awarded the Erasmus Praemium Dissertation Prize for her dissertation.

Currently, Litska is affiliated with the Open University as an assistant professor of philosophy and law and PhD dean. In both her teaching and research she focuses on the intersection between technology, criminal law and ethics. In 2019, she was nominated as researcher of the year at the Open University. In addition to her work at the university, she is a member of the Ethics Advisory Group of Abrona (a care institution for people with intellectual disabilities).
