My research project aims to expand mediation theory by bringing-in elements from the ecological approach to cognition. My objective is to provide a better-informed understanding of the ethical challenges that Smart Environments pose.
As the next step in ecosystem engineering, Smart Environments entail a new quality of human-technology interactions that open a lot of questions regarding the scope and reach of their influence on human behaviour, practical skills, and cognitive abilities. By emphasising that these processes span among the mind, body, and the technological world, the ecological approach to cognition proves to be a complementary framework to mediation theory. Together, they provide a good basis to address the implications that follow from a hyper-personalised, ubiquitous, and always-on kind of environment.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy as well as a Master’s degree in Philosophy of Science from the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM). I also hold a Master’s degree in Philosophy, Science, and Values from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
Among my research interests are Philosophy of Technology, Postphenomenology, Material Engagement Theory, 4E’s approach to cognition, Ecological Psychology, Philosophy of the City, Science and Technology Studies, and Pragmatism.
