Profile
Nynke’s research is dedicated to energy justice, combining climate ethics and political philosophy. She studied philosophy and political science at the KU Leuven, focussing on the crossroads between political philosophy, political science and philosophy of education, followed by a teacher’s training. From 2019-2020 she worked as project coordinator ethics and economy at UCSIA vzw, focussing on themes such as climate ethics and the just transition.
The energy transition implies moving away from carbon towards renewable energy. This transition needs to be just, hereby creating one of the largest societal challenges of the coming decades. The RELEASE-project tackles the problem of upscaling energy storage. Nynke thinks about the ethically responsible design of an energy storage system. She combines this with the notion of normative uncertainty. She works together with dr. ir. Behnam Taebi and dr. ir. Udo Pesch.
