Profile

Roxanne is a PhD candidate at Eindhoven University of Technology. She investigates the complex picture of the influence of social media upon democratic politics.  Whilst acknowledging how social media facilitates more participative democracy, she researches whether the claim that democratic politics is linked to truth telling, rationality, consensus and reason is still tenable due to social media. Her project “Will democracy survive social media?” is part of the research programme ‘Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies’ (www.esdit.nl), funded by NWO in the Gravitation funding scheme for excellent research and the participating institutions, seven academic institutions in the Netherlands. Before starting her PhD, Roxanne obtained a BA in International Studies at Leiden University and MA degree in Applied Ethics at Utrecht University. In 2021, Roxanne is the student representative for Eindhoven University of Technology in the 4TU.Ethics PhD Council.
