Critical AI Studies

Monday, 3 March 2025

The Critical AI group is pleased to announce the launch of ourĀ onlineĀ seminarĀ CRITICAL AI STUDIES,

This series will focus on AIā€™s historical development and its deep entanglements with the formalization and measurement of labor, language, knowledge, and social relationships. Taking a critical approach, we will examine how AI intersects with broader social and political structures considering these not as incidental effects but as ideological constructs shaped alongside the evolution of information technologies.Ā The aim is to understand AI as anĀ ā€œepistemic objectā€ā€”one that bridges technical development with the natural, social, and human sciences.

This seminar series provides an interdisciplinary space for critically examining how modeling practices shape the relationship between knowledge and power in the contemporary world. More than just a technological phenomenon, AI must be analyzed within the context of its broader cultural and political history.

Format and Organization :Ā The seminars will take placeĀ bi-weekly, with each session featuring presentations, discussions of ongoing research, and collective readings of critical texts.Ā

ViaĀ Google Meet. A meeting link will be circulated prior to each session.
