Call for Papers: Special Issue on "Ethics of Artificial Intelligence" Síntese – Philosophy Journal (FAJE)

The editorial board of SĂ­ntese, one of the most traditional philosophy journals in Brazil (since 1959) published by the Department of Philosophy at the Faculdade JesuĂ­ta de Filosofia e Teologia (FAJE), invites submissions for a special issue on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This issue aims to explore the philosophical, ethical, and societal challenges posed by AI and its rapid development.

We welcome original and unpublished papers from scholars holding a doctoral degree. Postgraduate students may submit if co-authored with a PhD holder. 


Suggested Topics

We invite contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following themes: 

  • Moral status of AI: Can AI possess moral agency or personhood? 
  • AI and responsibility: Who is accountable for AI-driven decisions? 
  • Algorithmic bias and justice: Ethical implications of biased AI systems
  • AI and human dignity: How AI impacts autonomy, privacy, and rights 
  • Ethics of AI in warfare and surveillance: Moral concerns in military and security applications
  • The role of AI in democratic societies: How AI influences political decision-making and public discourse 
  • AI and employment: Ethical challenges of automation and job displacement 
  • Ethical frameworks for AI governance: Comparing deontological, utilitarian, and virtue ethics perspectives
  • AI and the environment: Environmental impact of AI, energy consumption, and digital sustainability
  • AI and global justice: Technological inequalities, impacts on the Global South, and equitable access to innovation
  • AI and digital privacy: Surveillance risks, data protection, and ethical implications for fundamental rights
  • Theological and religious perspectives on AI ethics
