On April 21, 2023, Congcong Sun, assistant professor at Farm Technology Group, gave a presentation about the 4TU Green Sensors project in the 4TU.NIRICT section, aims to leverage the synergy among ICT disciplines toward top-quality ICT research, of ICT Open 2023.

In a presentation on the topic of "Green soil sensor towards sustainable future smart agriculture", Congcong discussed the potential of the Green sensor and outlined its blueprint. The project aims to develop a biodegradable, bio-nano, and cost-effective soil sensor that produces zero e-waste. The sensor network, comprising of these innovative sensors, will be capable of acquiring targeted information from data and determining the most efficient way to farm. By utilizing those data, farmers will be able to make informed decisions to manage crops in a sustainable and optimal manner. This project is particularly noteworthy as it is being developed within the 4TU collaborative framework, with each of the four universities of technology taking responsibility for one area - materials, wireless system, control system and application. This approach allows the project to fully leverage the unique disciplinary strengths and collaborative advantages of each university. Overall, the development of this type of sensor has the potential to revolutionize agriculture by providing farmers with a cost-effective, sustainable way to monitor soil conditions while also reducing waste and environmental impact. The project aligns with the growing focus on sustainability and the need for more environmentally friendly technologies across industries.
