People with Parkinson's disease suffer from motor challenges, such as muscle stiffness, slowness of movement, and involuntary shaking. This makes it hard to use an everyday tool like a computer keyboard. That is why IDE graduate Alessandra Galli created a keyboard prototype that addresses these concerns. The prototype embeds capabilities such as haptic feedback and visual cues, and caters to personal and ergonomic needs. āI want to help people, so I am looking for collaborators to take development forward,ā she says.
Parkinson's diseaseĀ (PD) affects 8.5 million people worldwide,Ā and this number is set to reach 25 million by 2050. People with PD can suffer motor challenges such as muscle stiffness, slowness of movement, and involuntary shaking. This can impact their use of an important tool in modern day society: the computer keyboard. The keyboard is a gateway to essential activities, such as working, accessing social networks, and banking. As such, not being able to use one can have a negative impact on a person on a daily basis.
