The 4TU Research Centre High-Tech Materials, a concerted effort by Delft and Eindhoven Universities of Technology, the University of Twente and Wageningen University, provides an impulse to the design of new materials. With the selection of six research proposals it will stimulate the development of new knowledge on materials in high-quality academic research.
Just like other 4TU Research Centres, 4TU.HTM received funding from the 4TU Federation to launch a new research programme*: âNew Horizons in designer materialsâ. In July 2015, six research projects have been selected to act as nuclei for new academic research groups in the Netherlands for the design and development of future materials. The projects are scientifically fundamental and highly innovative. For each project an excellent postdoctoral researcher with the ambition and the potential for a tenured academic career in the Netherlands will be recruited. Each of these post-docs will be working in close collaboration with internationally renowned experts in the field of materials science.
The six research projects that have been selected are:
- Understanding structure formation in hierarchical hybrid materials through in situ liquid phase microscopies - prof.dr. Nico Sommerdijk (TU/e)
- "From Flatland to Spacelandâ: Towards Advanced, 3-Dimensional Materials Bottom-Up, from Polymer Decorated Nano- and Microstructures - prof.dr. Julius Vancso (UT) & prof.dr. Bert de With (TU/e)
- Reversible crosslinking: a potent paradigm for designer materials - dr. Kees Storm (TU/e) & dr. Wouter Ellenbroek (TU/e)
- Communicating surfaces - dr. Danqing Liu (TU/e)
- Superconducting Carbon Nanotubes composite as Vertical Interconnect for Qubit Integration at Cryogenic Temperature - dr. Ryoichi Ishihara (TUDelft) & prof.dr. Kouchi Zhang (TUDelft)
- Metamaterials with tunable dynamical properties -Â dr. Varvara Kouznetsova (TU/e) & prof.dr. Marc Geers (TU/e)
During the 3TU.HTM Kick-off Symposium 'Dutch Materials' (Utrecht, 6 October 2015), the six projects will be introduced. The actual start of the different projects depends on the recruitment of the intended post-doc, and is expected in the coming half year.
