It is our great pleasure to announce that we will have our annual 4TU.NIRICT Community Day on December 13, 2023, and we would like to invite all staff members related to the 4TU.Netherlands Institute for Research on ICT to participate.
This community meeting will offer the chance to meet with your 4TU colleagues, in an interactive and diverse program.
As the themes of 2022 attracted a lot of interest and are still highly relevant, we will have the same themes this year with the addition of the Sustainable ICT theme:
- Health and ICT
ICT has the potential to improve patient outcomes, increase healthcare access, reduce costs, and enhance the overall quality of healthcare services. However, it also comes with challenges, including data security and privacy concerns, interoperability issues, and the need for ongoing training and adoption among healthcare professionals. How can the ICT community contribute to more effective and affordable healthcare while overcoming those challenges? - Energy and ICT
The transition towards a more sustainable future is gaining momentum. Various sectors are being electrified, such as built environment, heating and transportation, and more energy is being generated from renewable sources. To effectively manage this transition, we need smart solutions for a smooth integration of new energy sources and management of production and consumption. What role can the ICT community play in advancing the energy transition? - Sustainable ICT
While ICT is a key enabler for many sectors to become more sustainable, its own sustainability is also paramount. While exact accounting is hard, it is no secret that ICT accounts for a significant share in global energy consumption. With the vision of next generation networks connecting cyber, physical, and biological systems massively, ICT systems from its hardware components, e.g., the end user devices or power-hungry data centers, to its software components, e.g., AI and other software, need to become more energy-efficient and sustainable also considering the resources consumed beyond energy, e.g., water. - Agriculture and ICT
In the face of increasingly frequent extreme weather conditions, driven by climate change, the agriculture sector is confronting significant challenges. With a growing global population and mounting pressure on our natural resources, it's imperative that we explore innovative solutions to ensure the sustainability of our planet while meeting the growing demand for food. How can smart ICT solutions help us address these pressing issues and maintain a healthy balance between food production and population growth?
Around these themes, we would like to bring NIRICT researchers together to brainstorm, discuss, and explore the opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. There will be a plenary session followed by breakout sessions per theme.
This half-day event is free to attend and will take place in Grand Hotel Karel V in Utrecht. The day starts at 12:30hrs with a walk-in lunch. At 13:30hrs the official part will start with a plenary session, followed by several parallel sessions regarding the four themes of the day. You can indicate your preference on a theme using the registration form. Afterwards there will be a networking drink from 17:00-18:00hrs.
It would be great to welcome many of you on December 13. Together we strengthen the ICT community of The Netherlands, so join us for the 4TU.NIRICT Community Day 2023 and register here by November 29, 2023.
Please consider distributing this invitation among your colleagues.
Thank you and we hope to see you there!
