Track 5
The distinct features of conventional diagnostic imaging modalities, such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance, arise from specific underlying physical principles. Combining different modalities in a single device will be a major step to overcome limitations of current multimodal imaging techniques based on overlay of post-processed images from separate instants and often from different positions. One key modality to be considered will be proton imaging using ultrasound based on the interaction of microbubbles and the therapy beam, for which the physical mechanisms and mathematical models are hitherto unexplored.
