I am professor of Coastal Engineering at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) and Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. I hold a PhD from TU Delft and have previously worked for Delft Hydraulics (nowadays Deltares) and in the dredging industry (Boskalis). My research interests include monitoring / modelling of nearshore coastal processes, dredging for marine infrastructure and Building with Nature, ultimately to enable broad implementation of nature-based solutions in daily engineering and management practice. Throughout my 25 year career in the water sector, I was closely involved in the execution, programming and management of applied coastal research, always at the interface of science, engineering and design.
In the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of TU Delft, we are focused on creating a better living environment for society. Resilience to natural or human-induced disruptions forms an essential part of what we aim to achieve, and our participation in the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering gives us the opportunity to strengthen our activities through contacts and joint research projects with a wide range of experts with similar aims.
