I am interested in the dynamics of the neoenvironment – the rapidly changing physical and social world in which people live. I am particularly drawn to coastal and fluvial settings, and problems in which the fundamental functioning of infrastructure networks is exposed to impacts from natural hazards. I enjoy the puzzle of testing and exploring theory with empirical observations. My research process involves fieldwork, physical experiments, analysis of remotely sensed data, and numerical modelling, underpinned by theory and tools of complex systems.
