Transdisciplinary approaches for co-producing Resilience Assessment

Wednesday, 19 June 2024

On Wednesday 13 June we welcomed 23 enthusiastic researchers to our workshop on transdisciplinary approaches to co-producing resilience assessments. This time we were joined by some new faces from WUR as we organised a combination with a lunch seminar. Hosting the lunch seminar proved to be very beneficial for establishing new connections and hopefully future collaborations.

As this is the second workshop on RE methodology, there is a core RE team of researchers who attended both methodology workshops and wish to continue their involvement. During this workshop, some inspiring pitches and presentations were shared, and then there were parallel breakout sessions on the following sub-themes:

  1. The challenge of applying resilience: what struggles are experienced to what extent when applying resilience in practice?  Yirang held a presentation.
  2. The benefits of co-producing resilience: what evidence do we have that resilience assessment and especially transdisciplinary approaches that emphasize co-production of knowledge contribute to building resilience? Joanne held a pitch.
  3. The challenge of transdisciplinary knowledge co-production: what do we know about challenges associated with transdisciplinary knowledge co-production? Camilo held a pitch.
  4. From principles / ideas to assessment: what practical examples do we have moving from principles to indicators / metrics through co-production process? Miranda presented work from Alicia.

We had a plenary session on Tools: what approaches and tools do we have to overcome challenges? Carissa made a valuable contribution to this topic. Other contributions came from George and Miranda, who held interesting presentations of what they are working on at WUR.

After the breakout sessions, the groups presented their thoughts. This led to some nice and lively discussions and also to the feeling of having achieved some 'results', some small bits of knowledge that we could now process into, for example, a paper.

Another possible outcome of this series would be, for example, a follow-up meeting with stakeholders. The team is happy to pass the scientific organisational baton to the next group of interested and enthusiastic colleagues, and of course the 4TU.RE Centre will provide all the organisational support and funding.
